When we start learning Tai Chi and Qigong, often our intention is single minded, stress management, health enhancement, etc., but as our practice evolves we realize that so much more awaits us on so many profound levels. So, it’s not surprising that the same thing occurred with World Tai Chi & Qigong Day on 28th April. There was something extraordinarily moving about seeing and feeling the entire world . . . breathe together . . . on this special day.

After many years of teaching Tai Chi and Qigong, I’ve begun to realize that these arts aren’t designed to cultivate or create our internal energy – Qi (pronounced chee) is profound because Qi is embodied in every living thing on earth, Qi – energy is limitless throughout the universe.

Internal and external Qi is natural, for those critics who look too deeply into this philosophy, imagine the ebbing and flooding of a river or the waxing and waning of the moon or even life and death, all things consist of Yin and Yang which means they are constantly changing from one to the other, beginning or ending.

Every thing we see and feel is in flux of existence within our selves and externally. Qi is what we are made of – our awareness of it, and our ability to shine with it are restricted by the prisons we create in our mind, heart, and body.

As well as the earth the universe is in a constant flux which is a natural phenomena waxing and waning with tremendous energy but never constant, even the universe is constantly changing and as we know so well our own earth is changing and will one day stop existing as we know it today, you don’t have to be a physicist to realize this. The universe as we know it will eventually die but then in the natural process another will be created continuing the process of yin and yang.

I feel that Tai Chi and Qigong are universally designed to shake off the tension dust and to enhance and cultivate our own Qi, Its waiting to expand within and throughout us, as we learn to let go and heal ourselves.

This isn’t a challenge to traditional teaching, but a clarification, as all western translations aren’t the original teaching, they are translations of it. Each of us, as we experience these arts around the world, become part of the long lineage of translators of Tai Chi and Qigong, finding ever new ways to cast light on what these magnificent arts are. We are Qi, Qi is waiting to shine through and flow into this ever changing world and universe.

Author Colin Orr with extracts from Bill Douglas WTCQ day article.

And once again at long last I have found time to post the latest pupdate news letter for ‘Misty’ who we currently sponsor:
When Misty first started training school she was partnered with a trainer called Sam. Sam worked on ensuring Misty settled into her new training environment well and concentrated on her basic obedience and social behavior training. This included Misty’s ability to travel, tasks such as ‘straight line’ and ‘’kerb work and many more. Once Misty had been with Sam for four weeks she then moved onto Mandy. “ Misty is a star!” says Mandy “She’s coped extremely well with all the different environments she’s been introduced to recently and has always adapted brilliantly to change”. Mandy went on to say “She has naturally bonded with all her handlers which is definitely a required trait for any successful guide dog.”

Misty taking it easy

Misty has already been introduced to a harness and is making regular trips to the edge of town and into residential areas. “She’s a very bright girl and so responsive” said Mandy. Once Misty has finished a hard day’s training she really enjoys a free run with her kennel pals, Jef, Eddie and Taggart. We can’t wait to hear how Misty is getting on with her advanced training in her next Pupdate.

Misty’s been working on an obstacle course with cones, poles and other obstructions designed to stimulate real life obstacles. The idea is that she sits or stands each time she gets to a new obstacle to indicate to her handler that there is a potential hazard

Next pupdate: find out how Misty is getting on with her advance training.
Extracts taken from Misty’s pupdate 4 www.sponsorapuppy.org.uk. Guide Dogs

World Tai Chi Day Saturday 28th April was wet, windy and very cold but many TCQC members turned out to face the elements on Gorleston Cliffs. Although it was wet and windy everybody had a good laugh and fulfilled our promise to practice at 10am on this special day linking with many continents round the world. What filled Mitzi and I with pride was that so many turned up as the weather was so atrocious, that’s what I call dedication and commitment to the practice of Tai Chi and Qigong. Most Tai Chi players would prefer to practice in a warm cozy climate (wouldn’t we all). Well done to all who were present. We left the Cliff Tops with a very warm heart.

WHY A WORLD HEALING DAY? Earth is changing faster than at any time in human history. The change is stressful and testing each of us to redefine who we are and how we view our place on the planet.

Research has shown that human consciousness has a physical impact on the world during times of great human tragedy (Global Consciousness Project). What if humans came together en masse to form a wave of healing intent around our planet on the last Saturday of April? Which is also World Tai Chi Qigong Day.

A slight shift in human consciousness can have profound impact throughout the World. Become part of this worldwide wave of healing intent.

I think we all agreed it was a very good practice, ironing out and confirming the new routine, mainly clarifying the walk on, walk off and changing over during the weapons sections. As you know World Tai Chi Day is next Saturday on the Cliff tops, this day is always a good rehearsal for team bonding out in the open where most of the demos take place.
Lets hope the weather is fine next Saturday but to make sure dress warm even though demonstration shirts will be order of the day.
Well done everybody for turning out on a Sunday morning.
