Tuition Syllabus
The TCQHC learning program encompasses progressive stages based on the five elements:

Fire – Red (Enrolment Stage)
ENROLMENT STAGE: Step One and Centre Badge. (Automatic on joining)
Element Fire / Colour Red
Earth – Yellow (Intermediate Stage)
Second Step Badge
Element Earth / Colour Yellow
To achieve this stage you should have covered the following:
- Yang Cheng-fu Taiji Long Form
- 8 Strands of Silk Brocade Qigong – Baduanjin
- 18 Tai Chi Qigong set – Shibashi
- Fragrant Buddha Qigong – Level One
- Zhang Zhuang five Postures – Standing Meditation – Three Circle Qigong
- Understanding the basic principles of Yin & Yang
- Comprehend the three basic elements covering Tai Chi, Qigong & Relaxation
Assistant Instructor Level
Assistants Instructor Merit Badge
Element Qi / Colour Purple
This stage is by appointment only. Once a student has achieved the Intermediate stage and shown club commitment they are entitled to wear the assistant instructors merit badge after the prescribed trial period.
This Merit badge is required prior to completing any of the instructor modules.
Wood – Green (Advance Stages 1 and 2)
Third Step Badge
Element Wood / Colour Green
There are two levels to this step: level 1 and level 2
Level one:
This level will qualify for the green step badge.
To achieve this stage you should have covered the following:
- Refinements and Advanced Yang Cheng-fu Form Movement
- Appreciate Martial Applications
- Completed the First 64 set of Dayan Wild Goose Movements
- Appreciate the Dayan Qigong Accupoints
- Understanding and applying Sung’ and ‘Fa-Jing’
Level two:
Level two supplement skills go towards the fourth step / blue badge instructor modules.
Level two consists of level one plus the following:
- Completed the Yang Taiji Stick Form
- Completed the Yang Taiji Broad Sword Form
Water – Blue (Instructor Stage)
Fourth Step Badge
Element Water / Colour Blue full Instructors Badge once all five modules have been achieved.
TCQHC senior students may only apply for this stage once they have achieved all five modules and passed the selection process by the Principal Instructors – Co Directors. They must have level 1 and 2 of the third step green badge, in addition they must have club outstanding attendance and commitment and hold the Merit Badge for Assistant Instructor. Be conversant with and understand the TCQHC Terms & Conditions, Aims & Objectives
Module skills achieved are awarded with a module badge coloured Turquoise. Once all five modules are achieved a full instructors blue badge is awarded
Modules Required to Achieve TCQHC Association Instructor
Module 1. Yang Cheng-fu Long Form
Module 2. General Qigong covering:
- (2a) Baduanjin Eight Strands of Silk Brocade
- (2b) Xiang Gong Fragrant Buddha Qigong
- (2c) Shibashi Eighteen Tai Chi Qigong
- (2d) Five Posture Zhan Zhuang Qigong Standing Meditation
Module 3. Yang Taiji Stick Form
Module 4. Yang Taiji Broad Sword Form
Module 5. First 64 of Dayan Wild Goose
Instructor module competence must include: Time served with club, detailed module knowledge, good teaching/coaching technique in the foundation and intermediate steps and present a ten minute presentation on their chosen module. (Also see below ongoing requirements)
Ongoing Association requirements: Once the Instructors certificate and badge has been awarded, the instructor must have twice yearly proficiency checks by a Principal Instructor in order to maintain a high level of teaching in accordance with the TCQHC Association teaching requirements; he/she must also maintain good attendance, show continuing commitment and support for the Association at all times to hold the instructors certificate of competence.
Metal – White (Chief Instructor Stage)
Fifth Step Badge
Element Metal / Colour White
To achieve this stage candidates should have completed all five of the Instructors blue badge Modules plus six extra modules as follows:
- Module 6. Second 64 of Dayan Wild Goose
- Module 7. Yang Walking Stick Form
- Module 8. Observed social skills
- Module 9. Yang LuChan Taiji Long Form
- Module 10. Understand and apply Qi Transference Therapy
- Module 11. Emergency First Aid
Acquire a recognised Teacher Qualification such as Adult Further Education, City & Guilds 7306 / NVQ level 3 or equivalent certification
Also have knowledge of the following:
- Traditional Chinese Medicine, Histograms & Hexagrams hence the I Ching Book of Change and the five element theory
- Devise and teach his/her own session schedule program in line with TCQHC guidelines
- Able to apply administration skills at club level
